FoxFire Project

The Foxfire Project, begun by Eliot Wigginton and his students in the 1960s, was designed to save from oblivion the local color of a particular Southern region: the dialect, customs, recipes, antiques, manners, clothes, games and rituals of a particular area.

As a class, the students enrolled in Ms. Rojo's AP English Language and Composition class have compiled their own stories for their own version of a “Foxfire E-Magazine” renamed "Leafing".

My New Best Friend

In December of 2010 we got a new dog. She was so small you could hold her in your hands. She always stumbled along and followed my other dog, Nacho, around constantly. We ended up naming her Charlotte. Originally she loved following my dad around. But that quickly changed and now she belongs to me
She always follows me around. When I would walk in the door she would whine until I picked her up and pet her. If I don’t lay on the couch with her on Saturdays she’ll lay down and stare at me with a disappointed look on her face until I do.
It makes me grin to see how an animal can be so devoted without caring what else happens. They just love you no matter what you do or who you are, as long as you treat them right. They don’t care what you say as long as it’s in a nice voice. They are just so happy to be with you and be pet. Dogs are just so loyal. She is always there when needed.
We have two cats in addition to our two dogs. Charlotte always wants to play with our cat Mr. T. However, he does not want to play with her. She just doesn’t get it. She chases after him and he turns around and hisses at her. She then runs away. Mr. T runs the house. He has been part of the family almost as long as my little brother. Our house would just seem empty without any one of them.

Charlotte: She thinks she can do yoga but can only do downward facing dog
