FoxFire Project

The Foxfire Project, begun by Eliot Wigginton and his students in the 1960s, was designed to save from oblivion the local color of a particular Southern region: the dialect, customs, recipes, antiques, manners, clothes, games and rituals of a particular area.

As a class, the students enrolled in Ms. Rojo's AP English Language and Composition class have compiled their own stories for their own version of a “Foxfire E-Magazine” renamed "Leafing".

Andrea

Andrea was a very important human being to me, she was my dog but also like a little sister to me.  Her race was Chihuahua mixed with another race so when she grew up, she was not as small as an original Chihuahua.  She had many special features that another dog being the same race did not have.  She was very smart, she knew when we would want to prank her or trick her.  We considered her as a family member because she really was, she was our little sister.

What I liked very much about Andrea was that she had short hair that would not fall off, we were able to carry her like a baby and would not worry about her leaving hairs all over our clothing like we would with another dog with no special features like her.  Also, Andrea could sleep with any of us and we would not have to worry about her leaving her hairs all over the place.  She had her own special way to ask for what she wanted, she knew we understood her and would keep doing certain action until we finally agreed to do what she wanted because she got very lazy over time.  Andrea understood everything we would tell her, she would decide to obey us or not; when she did something bad she would run to hide under anyone´s bed, we would order her to get out of there and she would just lay there and literally roll, that was her way to laugh at us.  Throughout her lifetime, we believed that Andrea knew everything that was going on our house, and there were several reasons to believe that.  Every time we would do something bad, Andrea was there watching, every time we would not obey any of my mom´s rules, Andrea was watching.  When we would eat we would not kick Andrea out to the yard like normal people do, we would take turns to give her pieces of our food, Andrea would get mad if she noticed that we were finishing and still had not given her anything.

Time passed and Andrea got older, she would be more peaceful than she ever was, she would not bark at us for anything, she would just live like a little girl with her family.  Andrea died on October the 4th, 2014, her birthday was December 26th, 2008, she did not even turned six. Andrea was not our pet, she was our little sister.
