FoxFire Project

The Foxfire Project, begun by Eliot Wigginton and his students in the 1960s, was designed to save from oblivion the local color of a particular Southern region: the dialect, customs, recipes, antiques, manners, clothes, games and rituals of a particular area.

As a class, the students enrolled in Ms. Rojo's AP English Language and Composition class have compiled their own stories for their own version of a “Foxfire E-Magazine” renamed "Leafing".

Bites

I was four years old when I stared to remember things.  I was at the quad of my school, it was after school and there was nobody I could see.  My mom was a teacher at my school in that time and that day she had to stay in a meeting; therefore I had to stay too.  It was a sunny day, but for some reason I could not my brother and my sister even though the three of us went to the same school and had to wait for my mom until the meeting was over.  From that evening and on, I started to remember things.  I remember that I could go to the snack bar and get anything I wanted without paying because my mom would go after school and pay for everything I would get.
I remember that there was a trouble kid my brother had in his class. That kid was not intelligent enough to the next grade, so I had him in class the year after.  That kid liked to bite all other kids in class.  My brother got bit by him the year before, so the probabilities of me getting bitten by him were high.  The next thing I remember is that I was in the nurse´s office because he bit me.  A few weeks later I got my revenge by biting him on his finger, I literally almost ripped his finger off and there was blood all over the place.  My brother also wanted his revenge so he locked himself with that kid in a classroom and bit the heck out of that kid.

There were not just tragedies during my first years in school, I also remember that for Holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving, and many other events we would do special celebrations to have fun and to remember how important those traditions are.  I cannot recall a lot of things that happened in my life at that age, but the things that I can remember from school were the most grateful things that happened to me.
