Everyone played videogames as a kid, and a lot of people still play as adults or teenagers. There were two games that had me addicted when I was a little kid. Halo and Gears of War.
Growing up there were two major things in my life, football and videogames. After my like fourth straight hour playing either game, I would think to myself, “What am I going to do with my life? All I ever do is play videogames.” I would ponder about it for a while but then just go back to playing another four hours.
I played so much that at one point my parents would have to ground me for no reason just so that I could stop playing them.
One of the reasons I think I got caught up in them was because of their capturing stories. Halo was about a single hero, Spartan 117, the Master Chief. He alone was going to be able to stop Aliens from destroying earth. Gears of War was also about one person in particular, Marcus, but his squad played a big role too. Marcus and his squad also had to fight in order to not become extinct to a horde of aliens from down below.
These two games made me want to join the Army. It made me feel like I could be the hero that everyone needs, not just in the Army but in everyday things. There were certain times that I would picture myself as the Master Chief, or Marcus, and wonder what they would do in that situation.
As I got older, I still played them and they’re still as fun as they used to be, but now I realize that they are just games. Although on occasion I still get excited enough when I play them to wonder what it would take to build a super soldier like the Master Chief.
hahaha!
ReplyDeleteI see why these games brighten your sights to join the army; the action, the commitment, the strength, and the honor. games very similar to this also made my want to join the armed forces.
I feel you, bro!
may you continue in your dreams, Master Chief!
