FoxFire Project

The Foxfire Project, begun by Eliot Wigginton and his students in the 1960s, was designed to save from oblivion the local color of a particular Southern region: the dialect, customs, recipes, antiques, manners, clothes, games and rituals of a particular area.

As a class, the students enrolled in Ms. Rojo's AP English Language and Composition class have compiled their own stories for their own version of a “Foxfire E-Magazine” renamed "Leafing".

Grand Theft Auto

I remember when I was twelve years old, there was a game that made stay for hours, days and even weeks in my room trying to pass it and not anything else.  The name of the game was Grand Theft Auto.  This game was very entertaining to me, on the game, I did not do the same things all other kids did on it, I became interested on passing it and committed.

In this game, I had to go throughout numerous missions and several other difficult tasks in order to pass it.  There was this really special mission which I had a very hard time attempting to pass.  The mission consisted on the guy on the game which I would control, controlling a small helicopter with a remote (I would control that guy with a remote and that guy would control that small helicopter with a remote).  What this guy had to do was control the small helicopter through the city (the city on the game) and shoot vans, it was an armed helicopter.  It was a very hard task to control that helicopter, it was totally unstable which made the mission hard to accomplish.  I stayed there for so long, I would get pissed and frustrated every time I´d fail the mission.  After two months of unsuccessful attempts, I finally did it, I passed the mission and I moved forward in the game.  Now the problem was the following mission, it was even harder, it also consisted on a remote.  After a few weeks of performing unsuccessful attempts, I was still not able to pass it.

I gave up, I decided not to try to pass the following mission anymore.  I have not passed it yet because since that day I knew it would not be healthy to try just like the previous mission for that much time plus it would not give me anything

  1. it's funny how at first you didnt give up, but then after a lot of attempts you finally realized the mission was too hard and gave up. (Weren't you a little too young to be playing those kinds of games?)

  2. Kind of funny because I have the game and my sisters (who are not gamers of any type at all- seriously) always want to play. They have their own profiles and almost all the missions they have passed are because of me. They get frustrated easily when failing for the first hour:)
