FoxFire Project

The Foxfire Project, begun by Eliot Wigginton and his students in the 1960s, was designed to save from oblivion the local color of a particular Southern region: the dialect, customs, recipes, antiques, manners, clothes, games and rituals of a particular area.

As a class, the students enrolled in Ms. Rojo's AP English Language and Composition class have compiled their own stories for their own version of a “Foxfire E-Magazine” renamed "Leafing".

Love?

I remembered one day my 7 year old sister came tin y room asking me what love really meant. I remember the conversation so well because not even I knew the answer. The only reason I was able to understand was because I decided to ask my mom, to tell me about the moment she had fell truly in love.
My mother’s answer left me speechless. My mom said that the day she had fell truly in love became the day she saw her daughter being born. My mother’s eyes glowed when she talked about it, she described it as if time had frozen. My mother described feeling nervous and her stomach was filled with crazy butterflies, but as soon as my sister let that first cry things became different. My mother’s heart melted, her eyes filled with tears of joy and that pain that had once been felt vanished. I hadn’t understand what love really meant till it hit me.
The truth is that many people spend their life trying to understand what love really means. But the truth is, that love has different meanings to everybody. It will always impact you in differentways either for good or bad. My biggest mistakes as a child was believing that love would only be found just like in a fairytale. For example, Cinderella where I would find my prince charming. I always thought that I would only feel loved when I would find my prince charming. That seemed to my biggest mistake, not understanding love I just felt so stupid for being so blinded with my own thoughts that I didn’t realize I had been loved all along. That’s when I realized, love isn’t only found when you meet that special someone but rather through family and friends

  1. This is very insightful. I loved how you described your mother's reaction after she gave birth and how you wrote that love is different for everybody.

  3. I love the way you wrote this and how you tied in the Disney movies we all grew up with in contrast to the love of a mother. I also like the way you described the birth of her child.

  4. I like this because in all honesty, that's what my mom says. She had a difficult past and even then, says she wouldn't change it because she's glad she has us. I like how you say that love isn't only like a relationship- because it's really for family and friends. Nice! :)

  5. This story shows me how it's not a Disney movie all the time. You love many people rather it be relationship wise or family wise. I loved it!
