FoxFire Project

The Foxfire Project, begun by Eliot Wigginton and his students in the 1960s, was designed to save from oblivion the local color of a particular Southern region: the dialect, customs, recipes, antiques, manners, clothes, games and rituals of a particular area.

As a class, the students enrolled in Ms. Rojo's AP English Language and Composition class have compiled their own stories for their own version of a “Foxfire E-Magazine” renamed "Leafing".

More than just a game

Basketball
For many people basketball is just another sport or just another hobby to do. For me, basketball has become something more than just a sport, it has become something I truly love doing. Yes at times basketball may challenging but I just can’t seem to imagine my life without it. Basketball to me is something I look forward to everyday, and something I can’t live without.
I met the sport of basketball my freshman year. I remember walking in the gym, looking around and seeing all these fit girls and seeing them play. I remember telling myself I didn’t stand a chance. Yet things changed, my desire for success grew bigger and bigger each time I set foot on the court. One thing basketball taught me was that one must work hard to achieve ones goals. Now I look and see how far I have gotten. One of my biggest rewards is realizing I have made it further that girls who have been playing basketball since they were in the 5th grade. What I mean, is that I have made improved more that some girls. Honestly I know I can make it further because there is nothing more in life that I want that to make it to the college level. I always give it my all on and off the court and in practice as well, when given the opportunity to do so. And play every game like it were to be my last. And practice as if I were to live forever.
When practicing and playing basketball there’s nothing else that matters; it’s just me and the court. Basketball has become a therapy for me where nothing can hurt me and where I can just worry about improving myself without anyone judging my mistakes. There is no other escape like basketball and for me there is no other replacement for ball. But basketball isn’t just a one man sport it also teaches you the meaning of team work. It come to a point where your team becomes family, the court becomes your home and the ball becomes your bestfriend.
