FoxFire Project

The Foxfire Project, begun by Eliot Wigginton and his students in the 1960s, was designed to save from oblivion the local color of a particular Southern region: the dialect, customs, recipes, antiques, manners, clothes, games and rituals of a particular area.

As a class, the students enrolled in Ms. Rojo's AP English Language and Composition class have compiled their own stories for their own version of a “Foxfire E-Magazine” renamed "Leafing".

Not me

I love dares who doesn’t. I mean I was a kid at one time. I grew up with two older brothers and one little sister that is way younger than me. I mostly hung out with my brothers and their friends and like boys they did crazy things which I would do with them as well, sometimes. Of course, I had my own friends but they were in the same position as me so we would all hang out together.
One day my brothers and their friends thought about a great dare for us. In my defense I had nothing to do with the planning of it. Their dare was for me to break into the baseball stadium that we lived by. No one wanted to do it for the risk of getting caught and getting in trouble so like kids they drew straws. My brother’s friend Polo ended up getting the short straw like always he was the one doing the dares. He was able to get everyone on board with him to do the dare. This time I couldn’t do it I was too afraid of getting in trouble. I was the chicken this time not them
After a while of getting picked on by all of them I caved in and said yes to them. They knew I was going to do it anyways but picking on me just made it more fun for them. We made a plan so that our parents wouldn’t know what we were doing and would get mad at us. Once that was done we said a place that we would meet up at.
“If you see anyone duck and run to a spot that you could hide that no one’s about.” That’s the only thing my brothers remember saying to me. Little do I know that I was going in there with my best friend by yourselves. Not knowing that this was joke between the guys.
We ended up getting caught of course, we got in trouble with our parents because they saw us coming out of that stadium other than that it was a smooth dare from the guys. My mom said that she had ground me and my brother’s for about a week. Never again was I going to do something that my brothers set up.

  1. I think when you get in trouble the best people to go down with is your siblings.
