FoxFire Project

The Foxfire Project, begun by Eliot Wigginton and his students in the 1960s, was designed to save from oblivion the local color of a particular Southern region: the dialect, customs, recipes, antiques, manners, clothes, games and rituals of a particular area.

As a class, the students enrolled in Ms. Rojo's AP English Language and Composition class have compiled their own stories for their own version of a “Foxfire E-Magazine” renamed "Leafing".

Pets

Throughout my life I’ve had a lot of pets (mostly dogs).  I really liked all of them, they marked my life in some sort of way.  But out of all of the pets that I’ve had the one that I liked the most was a Chihuahua named Scooby.  I had him since he was a small dog, well he was small for his whole life but a baby dog.  I fed him and used to play with him every day.
He was a good but bad at the same time because as soon as we opened the door he used to run away and we would have to go chase him.  He ran away like 4 times, one time he ran away in the morning.  It was like 6 a.m.  And my uncle had to go chase him in pajamas, it was funny, after he brought him back home I couldn’t stop laughing.  Then another time he ran away and we didn’t even notice until I went outside and looked for him but he wasn’t there, so I went looking for him all around the neighborhood bur couldn’t find him, I was sad because I looked for over 30 min.  And didn’t find him so I gave up and went back home.  Once I got home he arrived at the same time and got back inside by himself.  I was happy but mad at him.  So after that time I took extra care of him and ha to be looking outside every like five min.  To make sure he was still there.
Then one day I looked and I was him climbing the fence, I was amazed by this because I had never seen any dog do this before, specially a small Chihuahua.  One day Scooby died because he was already too old.  So my father and I decided to bury him and we did.  I’m never going to forget Scooby.  He though me that no matter how big or small you are you can do whatever you want to.  And I say he thought me this because he was really small but he did a lot of things that not even big dogs can do.

  1. I really enjoyed the image of your Uncle running around in pajamas! I like the memories you shared, and I hope you never forget Scooby, just as you've written.
