FoxFire Project

The Foxfire Project, begun by Eliot Wigginton and his students in the 1960s, was designed to save from oblivion the local color of a particular Southern region: the dialect, customs, recipes, antiques, manners, clothes, games and rituals of a particular area.

As a class, the students enrolled in Ms. Rojo's AP English Language and Composition class have compiled their own stories for their own version of a “Foxfire E-Magazine” renamed "Leafing".

The Talents of a Amazing Kid

Throughout most of my life I always tried to find my talents as an individual. It took years to find my long hidden talents that I never expected that I would excel in. When I discovered my long hidden talents I knew I finally completed my long dreaded quest. The talents that I excelled appear as running, leadership, and appearing as a standup comedian, which is quite rare in my opinion. The talents that I inherited would change my past and continue to shape my future today.
The first talent I discovered that I was confidently quite good at turned out in the form of humor or in other words I realizing that had a sense of humor. At home I always appeared as the goof ball but in my social life I really didn’t socialize with anyone. The state of that being would completely change when I had a very abnormal dream. When I was eight years old I had a dream where I apparently received advice from a green talking chair. The chair had a conservation with me that I should embrace my gift of humor rather than seclude and to my question I gladly accepted its advice. From that point on I would use my talent of humor to make many of my fellow friends and peers laugh and I still listen to that words of wisdom from a green chair.
The second talent would take a total of two years for me to discover. By the age of ten I discovered I had the ability to sprint like a professional runner. I learn of my secret ability during Christmas Eve of 2005. My family and I were conducting various exercises on a track that Christmas Eve. My parent in order to motivate us promised my brothers and I that they would allow us that night to open one Christmas present and my brothers and I gladly accepted. So in order for me to get that present I used all my strength to out maneuver my parents when coming to speed. My parent’s amazement flew in the air that night when they bear witness my speed. Afterwards my ma and pa excitedly explain how fast I ran along that track and my pa said “Boy you have a gift” From that point on I realize I had the gift of speed and would continue to use it to this very day.
Leadership the last talent I would acquire would not appear to the time of my freshmen year in high school. In my freshmen year I joined Army JROTC which the program helps teach leadership to cadets. I thought why not give it a try little did I know that my last talent would be acquired there. Eventually I need to get handful of cadets to accomplish a mission and in order to do that I used apparently leadership skills I never knew I had and the mission turned out as a success. My instructor took notice of this and promoted me and apparently that wasn’t the end of it and I would be promoted to higher leadership positions. Many teachers also came to a sudden realization on my skills as a leader and many encourage me that I should go into politics as a career path. The teachers state that “You have the skills to survive the wild rage of politics.” That talent so far is the last I have discovered for now.
The talents that I inherited would change my past and continue to shape my future today. Each of the three talents make up me as a individual and stated from before the long quest of self-individualism apparently over for me. Overall my talents appear to me as very unique and I wouldn’t trade them in for anything else because I love who I turned out to be and I will continue to use the trait I have acquired.

  1. I haven't found many qualities in myself, personally, until I got into music very recently and it's nice to see those who are ahead of the game. The green chair was a funny image in my head. Work with these talents thoroughly and I'm sure you'll do great. Be the fastest, funniest leader you can be. In a game's context, "upgrade" your skills until you've hit the maximum level.
