As a student, I have always had a great respect towards my teachers and did what they assigned without complaining, but one day I lost it with one teacher in eighth grade. Throughout middle school I always had advanced classes, known as G.T. classes, they were very vigorous, a project almost every week. I worked hard in those classes in order to keep my A honor roll. It became more stressful because of the teacher’s rude behavior towards me. As the school year progressed Ms. Serrano began to ignore me when needed her assistance or if I talked I would be in trouble, and the way she spoke to me felt a little impolite. I became angry, “What did I do to receive this unfair treatment?” I thought. Until one day I no longer cared that she was a teacher and I had to respect her as a student.
Every month Ms. Serrano gave us our progress reports so we could know our current grade, when I received my progress report my jaw dropped like a yo-yo, I couldn’t believe that I had a 70 average in that class. As I observed the grades for each assignment I noticed that I had a “Not Handed In”, I became puzzled because I always turned everything on time.
I quickly raised my hand to ask her about the grade, when she came over I asked about the NHI I had received and she answered, “That means you didn’t turn in the work”. “I know what it means!” I replied angrily. She gave me a mean look, this made me feel outraged. As a result, I felt my face turn red as a tomato, “I’ve had enough” I said. I stood up and demanded to speak to her about the way she has treated me. I began to raise my voice louder to show her that I could defend myself, even from a teacher. After a few words she apologized with a sincere look on her face.
Even though I felt bad by the way I talked to her, she wasn’t rude or mean to me for the rest of the year. Thankfully, since that experience, I haven’t had an argument with a teacher. As a result I learned that just because they are older than you and is an “authority” at school doesn’t mean a teacher can disrespect a student.
I agree with the moral. You respect people regardless of anything. Just because she was older doesn't mean she gets to disrespect.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your story, and I didn't know this part of you. (I just hope no teacher makes you angry again cause then they're going to see your "Bad" side)
ReplyDeleteI also agree with the moral of the story and I am glad you stood up for yourself. I feel like some people who are the "authority figure" think they can do what ever they want and get away with it just because they are in charge. In reality, people who are put in authority should be leaders and show courtesy, and respect for others.
ReplyDeleteVery nice title, I agree with your last statement. It is very tedious to have just 90's and a 70.
ReplyDeleteHey man, sometimes you gotta do what you got to do, even if that means setting a teacher straight once in a while. But I have a similar story, and it's annoying when you have that one teacher that no matter what you do your grade never goes up!
